20% of Minsk Tractor Plant workers on full-scale strike, others on slow-down strike

Around 20% of workers of the Minsk Tractor Plant (MTZ) are on full-scale strike, while the rest are on the slow-down strike, head of the MTZ strike committee Sergei Dylevsky told reporters on late August 18. </p> <p> </p> <p> “The strikers divided into two groups. Some of them come to work, turn on the machines and perform in two hours the works that can be done in an hour. The second group is composed of the activists who went on a full-scale strike; go on the streets, to other enterprises and organizations. We are marching throughout the city, calling on other enterprises for solidarity,” Dylevsky said. </p> <p> </p> <p> When asked how many workers are on strike, he said that “people are still afraid.” “They are afraid of the management’s response, the reaction of the sitting government to the situation. They are afraid of dismissals, loss of bonuses, and reprimands. Since August 2014, MTZ Holding has been manufacturing over 160 models and modifications of tractors and machinery in the power range from 9 to 365 hp. The holding exports products to 85 countries.
